Get the most out of the white season with exciting winter sports!

The cold snowy days are rapidly approaching and if the idea of sitting in front of the fireplace with a hot cup of the tea in your hand sounds a bit dull, winter sports have the excitement that you need! From the classical and playful snowfall fighting to more professional activities like ice hokey, this winter you are bound to find a sport that will keep adrenaline pumping through your veins. Whether they can be played casually or require special professional training, they are a fun part of winter time and are expected with enthusiasm every year.

Skiing is emblematic for winter and is often the reason why people go in huge numbers to resorts in the mountainside. Initially used as a way of traveling, it has evolved into a pleasant past time sport and there are even skiing competitions that offer considerable prizes. It can be easily practiced by amateurs as well, even children can learn how to ski as long as the trainer is qualified and well prepared and the proper equipment is provided.

Another winter sport that is known for its elegance is skating. If you have ever taken your skates to the park, then you are ready to do skate on ice as well. Not only is it fun, but also very accessible. Every winter, more and more cities install ice rinks that attract a lot of sports lovers, especially at night, when the ice glaze and the bright Christmas lights create a magical atmosphere. Professionals have taken ice skating to a whole new level and at the winter Olympics we can see how they execute breathtaking acrobatics with amazing elegance and style.

A more extreme winter sport is snowboarding and it brings probably the most excitement and adrenaline. Its history is not as old as the others, but its fans are growing in number every season. It is indeed one of the most fun things to enjoy this winter, but it takes more time to be mastered because of the risks involved. It requires more safety precautions (special equipment, good physical condition) and the slopes chosen need to have a low avalanche risk, but once you get used to it, it will become very addictive and pleasant.

A fast-paced winter sport is also ice-hokey, which is  almost a cult in countries with a cold climate such as Canada and the United States. It is one of the most professional winter sports, because it is practiced in teams, with special equipment such as pucks, sticks and safety helmets. It is a bit more adventurous, because the players have to constantly make physical contact and they skate at very high speeds, so if you think that this is too much, you can always watch a game on TV instead.

Last, but not least, winter sports can awaken the child in you with playful activities like sledding and snowball fighting. They are just as fun and exciting, and they can be done in your own back yard, helping you bond with your friends and family. At the end of the day, when you come back to your warm, cozy living room with blushed cheeks, you know that you had a great time. These are only a few of the many enjoyable winter sports and no matter which one you choose, they will make the cold season more pleasant. Have fun!
